Tennis is the perfect companion sport for

Volleyball: Tracking a ball over the net, explosive movement, cat-like reflexes, serving and hitting (slamming) a ball.

Soccer: Emphasizes quick foot work and explosive movement, anticipate the ball and the other players movements. Movement without the ball. All the greatest tennis players also play soccer.

Basketball: Anticipate the ball and other players movements, quick foot work, explosive movement, movement without the ball, decision making

There has been a lot of research done on the importance of NOT playing just one sport. Playing more than one improves a persons mental clarity, stress relief, physical strength and stamina while decreasing burnout and the risk of injury significantly.

Ashton Eaton, a world record track star in the decathlon and considered one of the greatest athletes of all time, was asked what sport is the most athletic. He said “I personally believe tennis is the next most athletic sport next to the decathlon. Just because of certain things required. Those matches are … long. There’s the technical aspect, the agility, the mind-body awareness. Not to mention the game itself is a little bit like a chess match. I think there’s two aspects to athleticism. I think there’s the body, and then there’s definitely the mind”
